About the Event

The 2019 Annual Meeting will kick off with two special classes on Monday morning. New Directors of Elections with a year or less experience, or anyone feeling like they need a little more of the basics, are invited to participate in a GR Boot Camp from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Members needing re-certification of their VREO certification can participate in a class offered by The Election Center from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. (Info on this class will be coming out closer to the event.) Annual Meeting Registration begins at 11:00 am and the Opening Session begins at 1:00 pm. The Education Committee has put together a great line up of presenters on subjects specific to upcoming events we are facing in 2020 and beyond such as redistricting, Presidential election and early voting just to name a few. Members are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to fellowship and share experiences with others in our ever-changing field. During the Annual Banquet on Tuesday night, members will be entertained in a roving minstrel fashion by former Colonial Williamsburg Balladeers, John Turner and Cliff Williams. Mr. Turner is a master Scottish Fiddler and has a school for Scottish fiddle in North Carolina. Mr. Williams will be accompanying Mr. Turner on the guitar. At the conclusion of the banquet, they will provide a short concert. We will wrap up our meeting on Wednesday morning at 9:15 am with the VRAV business meeting and election of officers. In addition to the educational aspect of the Annual Meeting, Colonial Williamsburg offers many wonderful attractions for you to enjoy. This is the perfect opportunity to help celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first representative assembly in the New World, arrival of the first recorded Africans to English North America, the recruitment of English women in significant numbers, observance of the first official English Thanksgiving in North America, and the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of the Virginia Colony. Tickets to the various Colonial Williamsburg attractions will be available at the Concierge Desk at the Lodge if interested. The Lodge will also be honoring our reduced room rate for three days prior to and three days after our meeting should attendees wish to explore this area rich in historic significance.
